Could not insert a gallery onto a new page when the page was at ” visual “, but could do it when I inserted it at ” text ” , published it and left it alone. However, when I clicked to “visual” after the insertion (doesn’t matter if I have published it or not ), the gallery would disappear.

The same happened when I tried to edit a gallery on a page.

@ronnieiu – We are looking into this issue and are trying to get it sorted out as quickly as we can. In the meantime, I would suggest continuing to use the Text view in the TinyMCE editor when writing posts or pages that require a gallery/album be inserted.

    Thanks!

I updated the plugin to version 2.1.57, here is the result :

    1. Could insert a gallery onto a new page, no problem to toggle between ” visual ” and ” text ” and the photos of the gallery could be displayed.

    2. No thumbnail generated after the insert of the gallery. Instead, only a large rectangular frame with the label ” NEXTGEN GALLERY”, and with ” click to edit ” and ” click to remove ” symbols appeared underneath the label.

    3. By clicking the symbols I could remove the gallery but could not edit it.

I also discovered that in the Yoast SEO sitemap index, when I clicked the post sitemap, details could be displayed. When I clicked the page sitemap, an error occurred. This would be normal after I deactivated the NextGEN plugin.

@ronnieiu – Not being able to use the edit icon for the NextGEN Gallery display placeholder block is the only issue here (aside from the Yoast SEO issues which are another matter that we are looking into).

Have you tried deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN plugin?

If this fixes the problem then it was likely one of the deactivated plugins that was causing an issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating and in most cases it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

    I followed your suggestion.

    1. Deactivated ALL plugins, except NextGEN, cleared all caches and worked on a new page, same result as above.

    2. Switched theme from 2011 to 2014 with all plugins deactivated and tried a new page, same result as above.

@ronnieiu – Thanks! Let’s continue the conversation there for the time being.

I had the same problem and I found out that this is an issue:

When inserting a gallery it is inserted as <img id ="" class="" />. However, when you switch to Text and the to Visual and back to Text, the code is now <img id ="" class=""> without the self closing tag. And this breaks the gallery. Adding it back will make the gallery show on the page. This is not related to a theme, since it happens always.

@pinkpaisley – Although an interesting item to share, we no longer use the <img> tag placeholder in current releases of NextGEN Gallery. Inserted displays now use a generated shortcode and we recommend when viewing older pages/posts still using the <img> placeholder for users to re-open the IGW and then re-save the inserted display and update the page/post to move to a generated shortcode for the display.

    Thanks!
