• In my hunt for striking and unique WP themes/templates, I’ve encountered many that I really liked, but whose download files have been moved, sites have disappeared, reorganized, and so on. I’m left frustrated and disappointed.

I’m thinking there should be something alà Flickr or DeviantArt for WP Themes (allowing for creator profiles, groups, and so on), and it seems to me that there likely is a tool of this nature – but I’ve so far been unable to find such a thing.

Can someone help point me in the right direction?

some people like and want to host things on their own sites, and figure when they go — their work goes with them. For a myriad of reasons. For instance, themes, especially themes that end up hosted on those ‘collection’ sites .. in my opinion, seem to end up on other less noble ‘collection’ sites, with altered code, and what not.

@whooami I agree that some designers/developers have that preference. The same can be said for photographers and other digital artists which would be why participation or submission of themes to such a theme foundry would obviously be optional. I’m not suggesting that random people collect every theme they find online and submit others work for everyone to use; I’m wondering if a community similar to Flickr or DeviantArt exists for WP add-on creators.

The collection you referenced is certainly in the general scope of what I’m describing, but my concept is more communal, incorporating some of the elements of social networking as seen in the aforementioned websites.
