Whatsapp share counts

  • Hello,

    Many plugin designers like Shareaholic display a counter of the number of times a post is shared on Facebook, Google+ ect. So called social share buttons. Whatsapp is also present, but a share counter is missing. Is there a possibility to add it?

    Hi there!

    We rely upon the 3rd party social platforms to keep track of share counts, and then we aggregate them together and display them on your website. However if the 3rd party service does not track share counts, Shareaholic won’t display them. This is the case with WhatsApp, where WhatsApp does not provide and track share counts.

    Aha i see. To bad. Since WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, are there any futureplans that you are aware of on the API?

    We’re not sure… but since WhatsApp is a “private” platform for small groups of users (as opposed to a public social forum) it might not be something they want to pursue. But we don’t have any direct knowledge. Hopefully they add it!
