Installing and activating themes

Installed wordpress no problem, then tried to install another theme- FTPed the theme folder to the wp-content/themes folder. In the folder now are ‘classic’ ‘default’ and ‘newtheme’ folders…so how do I make the active theme ‘newtheme’ ?

Also want to add widgets and plugins- and suppose it will be similar- how to choose which items are active?
