    Hi,

The 4.2.3 update broke access to my site. Here’s what happened:

I renamed my login page. When I try to log into my site using the renamed login page, I get an error message that says “A lockdown event has occurred due to too many failed login attempts or invalid username.”

I went to my webhost and deactivated all the plugins, was able to log into my site via the regular login page, and then reactivated all the plugins, one by one. I made sure to clear my cache.

Yet when I try to reactivate All In One WP Security & Firewall, I immediately get an error message that says “ERROR: Access from your IP address has been blocked for security reasons. Please contact the administrator.”

This is a truly frustrating loop! Can someone please help? Thank you!

Forgot to mention earlier, I’ve tried logging into my site using the username, as well as email address, but neither works.

Okay, I appear to have fixed the issue on my own. The issue lay with an old plugin that hadn’t been updated in some time. I deleted that, and all is well.

    Hi,

I’m glad you’ve managed to solve your issue. Btw. feel free to post the plugin name here for reference, so we can check if there can be anything done to prevent compatibility issues with this plugin.

Hi, me too! I don’t know how I missed the plugin earlier. It was Acunetix WP Security. I checked and it hasn’t been updated in 2 years.

    Hi,

Since the 4.2.3 update, login is broken in combination with wp-members (latest version)
When disabling AIOWPS everything is OK.
The login process: ‘username or password not OK’

    How to solve?

    Thnx in advance.

    Hi @wpmot,

I’ll check the WP-Members plugin to see if there’s a conflict, but you should start your own forum thread, this one is resolved.

    Hi @wpmot,

You probably had “Display Generic Error Message” feature enabled (under User Login > Login Lockdown tab). Disable it and you should be fine.

    Chesio,

What worked for me: I first disabled the plugin AIOWPS and eveything was functional again.
Then enabled it again, but disabled al rules in the plugin. After enabling rules one by one, everything went fine. I didn’t check especially the setting you mentioned earlier.
This worked for me. All fine now.
Only thing left for me is to thank you for this great plugin and your response!

    Ciao!
