WordPress doesn’t create smaller versions of images

When uploading images to my wordpress site it only keeps the original sized image. This creates a huge load on both the control panel and the site itself. I suspect my host (web10.nu) is the cause to this problem, but I’m not sure what feature they don’t support or how I can find out.
Anyone experienced this problem before?
