Display WordPress Posts Widget Modify Images, Layout

I’m using the Jetpack Display WordPress Posts Widget to pull content from my subdirectory to my main WordPress install at slocyclist.com. Right now the homepage has the widget showing the title and excerpt of just one post from the subdirectory, which is filling the width of the page. I’d like to keep that, but add a few more posts in a horizontal grid or some other cool layout.

I realize this is probably meant to work best in a sidebar, but I’d really like to have more configurations for the widget to appear on a homepage. Is this possible with CSS?
