site down / missing file wp-includes/class-wp-list-util.php

  • My client called me this morning to say that he could not log in to his site after the host updated it to 4.7. I contacted his hosting support. After an hour and a half chatting with them, they determined that there was a code conflict between his custom theme and the new version of WP. Their diagnostics procedure left the site disabled, and we still cannot log in. His site has SSL, so I can’t ftp files to the server. I deleted wp-admin and wp-includes and have been laboriously hand-uploading all the files in these directories all afternoon. After finishing the Includes files, I refreshed the site and still find this warning and fatal error.

    Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/home2/rakuscom/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-list-util.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/php55/lib/php’) in /home2/rakuscom/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 97

    I looked in the downloaded/extracted files and couldn’t find this one, so I downloaded 4.6.1 and it wasn’t in there either. What do I do? This is an ecommerce site and it went down while a lady was shopping on it!! Who knows how many sales he’s lost while I’ve been uploading files!! Can someone help us please? Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer.

    – try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.
    – Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. You can never have enough backups!
