    Hi there,

We’re running the latest version of the plugin, 1.5.3 and have recently noticed that our page loads are very slow.

Investigating, the cause seems to be in mailchimp.php mailchimpSF_migrate_sopresto() where a wp_remote_post() call to https://sopresto.socialize-this.com/mailchimp/exchange is timing out and adding about 5-7 seconds to our page load times.

This occurs on both admin pages and frontend pages.

This looks like a change that was added in 1.5.0 when the API changed.

I’m wondering if it was designed as a temporary routine to transition to the new API and the old sopresto server has now been turned off?

For now, we’ve commented out the call to mailchimpSF_migrate_sopresto() but I’d love to know if this is a problem at your end, temporary/permanent, is there something better I can do to correct this?

    Many thanks

    Jon

  • Hi @jonjennings,

Thanks for reaching out! I’m sorry to hear that this is happening. In order to pass these details along internally to our developers to take a closer look, can I get some additional details from you?

    – What version of PHP is currently running on your page?
    – What theme is installed?
    – What other plugins are currently enabled?
    – If you revert to a default WordPress theme and temporarily deactivate all other plugins, does the page still lag? (This will allow us to rule out potential conflicts)

Thanks! I look forward to hearing back and helping out as much as possible.

Hi Pearl, thanks for the speedy response.

    PHP version: 5.3.10

    Theme: it’s a custom theme

    Plugins:
    Admin Menu Editor Pro
    Better My Sites Menu
    Clear URL Cache
    Contact Form 7
    Intuitive Custom Post Order
    MailChimp
    NS Cloner – Site Copier
    Regenerate Thumbnails
    Simple Page Sidebars
    WordPress Importer
    WordPress MU Domain Mapping

Default theme: I’d rather not do that right now because the site’s very busy. But if the developers can’t immediately see the problem then I’ll build a cloned copy of the site and test on that. All the developers should have to do is look around line 274 of mailchimp.php – the sopresto key is posted to https://sopresto.socialize-this.com/mailchimp/exchange and the response should have the new key. However the call comes back with a WP_Error object containing “cURL error 7: couldn’t connect to host” (after the timeout delay)

Theoretically this could also be caused by a plugin hooked into the wp_remote_post() call but a) I can’t think of one of the existing plugins that might want to do that and b) I can’t access the sopresto URL from a browser myself either

    Regards

    Jon

    Hey Jon,

Thank you so much for taking the time to get back to us with that information. I’ve gone ahead and passed these details along to our development team to allow them to dig in further. We really appreciate you bringing this to our attention – please feel free to reply back here at any time if you have additional details to add or if you have any other questions about the plugin in the meantime.

    Thanks again!

    Hello all,

Thank you for getting these details sent on over to us! I’ve gone ahead and passed all of this information along to our developers. Although I am unable to provide an ETA for resolution, the issue will be addressed soon.

That’s great news Pearl – thank you and please pass thanks on to the development team.

I’m still seeing the faulty 1.5.3 version on wp.org but I assume the new one is somewhere in the approval pipeline and will appear soon.

    Hey @jonjennings,

We’re happy about the fix too! We’ll certainly pass along your thanks.

I’m going to go ahead and mark this thread as resolved, though should anyone run into any further issues, please don’t hesitate to post again and let us know. We’re glad to help.

    Thanks,

Hello. I’m using the Social plugin in which I no longer found the wp repository to update it. I am no longer able to authorize my Facebook account to use the plugin. Returns a time out message. Looking at the problem it seems to me that some service that was looking for information in url: sopresto.socialize-this.com is no longer working. Can someone help me? Thank you.

Same problem for everybody, the plugin is obsolete and discontinued so they dont have support anymore. Worst that that there’s no real substitute since it was the best for doing what it did, none other supports distribution for social media after you send your post or even worse nobody else supports several Facebook Pages distribution at once. It was very very good at what it did.

Is there no other similarity? Thank you!

Yes there are similar, but of poorer performance:

    Jetpack
    Nextscripts

    Regards.
