php passing via url with permalinks

  • Hi,
    I would like to pass a variable via the url but I am using pretty permalinks. Is there a way to do this?

    I am creating a separate category page for ONE of my categories and would like to offer links to similar pages for the sub-categories of that category.
    Instead of creating one page per sub-category I want to be able to pass the sub-category id selected from the main category page to the sub-category page via the link to that page (of some other way).
