• I’ve just set up a simple site for our local community. The idea being to connect residents, organisations and businesses together all for free.
However, I want to avoid, as far as possible, littigation, criminal acts or any sort of financial claims against me as the host, as the result of someone making an unsuitable post.
Consequently, I feel there should be some Terms of Use on the site, but don’t want to get stuck in ‘legalease’. (Nor do I want to pay a solicitor to write it!)
Other questions come to mind, like – By moderating the content, am I taking accountability for the accuracy of the post?
Is anyone aware of a (copyright free) form of words that encourages good web behaviour? (and is friendly and easy to use!)

  • Might look at the wordpress.com TOS that is licensed under Creative Commons.

Thanks MichaelH – I had considered plagiarising these ??

However, one of the caveats used by Automattic is

“Automattic has not reviewed, and cannot review, all of the material, including computer software, posted to the Website, and cannot therefore be responsible for that material’s content, use or effects”.

In my case, being a small site that I am contributing to, this is not a claim that I could uphold.

I would be interested to know what issues other forum members had got into by running a blog? Have any turned into litigation?
