WP 4.7.1 You are currently editing the page that shows your latest posts.

  • I posted a post on my blogg, running WP 4.7.1. When trying to write a new post, I got the error message “You are currently editing the page that shows your latest posts.” I was not editing anything at that moment.

    When searching, I found some postings saying that one should do something with Pot ID in the database. Not being an expert om MySQL and databases, I did not want to change anything there. Then I found a comment referring to allowing comments. I had unchecked the box for “allow comments” on the last published posting. Sometimes I do not want comments, as it can create too much noise. But I still had checked the box “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.”

    When the box was unchecked, I was also unable to log in to Word Press. Fortunately I was already logged in on another computer. I checked the “allow comments” box, and tried to save the updated version. But nothing happened. The box was still unchecked, and the revision list was not updated. It would not update before I edited the text in the posting.

    When I finally succeded in updating the posting, now with “allow comments” checked. After doing that, I had no problems creating new postings or logging into WordPress.

    There must be a bug somewhere. I think we should be able so decide that we do not want comments on a page, without being blocked from writing new posts or even logging in.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
