• Resolved netbros

    (@netbros)

Since updating to Jetpack 4.5, Publicize to Twitter and Tumblr does not work with scheduled posts. The posts do post to my blog (internetbrothers.org), but the posts are not publicized to Twitter and Tumblr as I have selected. When posted in real time, without scheduling, all works as expected.

To try to resolve this problem I disconnected Jetpack from WordPress and reconnected. Since doing that, I receive the following error:

Something which should never happen, happened. Sorry about that. If you try again, maybe it will work.

    Error code: -32300

    Publicize

    Please help!

@netbros Publicize most likely stopped working because your site wasn’t properly connected to WordPress.com anymore.

It appears that your hosting provider is blocking us from communicating with your site. Whenever we try to communicate with your site’s XML-RPC file from WordPress.com servers, we receive the following error:

<html><head><title>Error 406 - Not Acceptable</title><head><body><h1>Error 406 - Not Acceptable</h1><p>Generally a 406 error is caused because a request has been blocked by Mod Security. If you believe that your request has been blocked by mistake please contact the web site owner.</p></body></html>

Could you contact your host and ask them to make sure incoming XML-RPC POST requests from WordPress.com aren’t blocked by their security measures?

Once that’s solved you should be able to start using Jetpack again.

    I hope this helps.

@edwards1 Could you try to reset your Twitter connection as explained here:
    https://jetpack.com/support/publicize/twitter/#reconnecting-twitter

If that doesn’t help, could you please start your own thread as per the Forum Welcome?
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/jetpack#new-post

Could you also give me a few examples of posts that weren’t sent to Twitter, so I can take a closer look?
If you want your site URL to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:

    Thank you!

Hello Jeremy. Thank you for your response.

I contacted my web host and found that they indeed were blocking XML-RPC requests. They removed the blocking, but when I created a scheduled post it still does not Publicize to Twitter and Tumblr.

I disconnected from Jetpack and reconnected and tried the scheduled post again. Still the same problem.

I will reiterate that this problem only began after upgrading to Jetpack 4.5. When running Jetpack 4.4.2 everything worked lovely.

Thanks once again for whatever assistance you can provide.

I can confirm that the block is now gone.

Could you point me to the post that wasn’t properly publicized, so I can check our logs to see what happened?

    Thanks!

Sure Jeremy. Here are a few:

This one I just now submitted as a scheduled post. It did not get publicized to Twitter and Tumblr. So this one is since my webhost removed the blocking.

These are a couple of others in the past few days:

That’s odd. Publicize relies on meta data attached to each post to figure out whether a post has to be publicized, or has already been publicized. There was no such meta data attached to that last post on your site.

Could you walk me through the steps you followed to create and publish the post?

    Thanks!

I wanted to let you know that we’re working on a fix, and hope to have it tested and ready to be included in the next Jetpack release scheduled to be released in a few weeks.

In the meantime, if you feel comfortable editing PHP files you can try applying this patch to your installation of Jetpack:

Good news! The patch is now merged, and available via Jetpack’s Beta plugin.

First, a word of warning: installing the latest build is not without risk. They are not as stable as regular releases and may contain other bugs. Please use caution if you decide to install and run the latest build.

If you decide to proceed, first grab the Jetpack Beta plugin from here:
    https://jetpack.com/beta/

Install the Beta plugin manually by following these instructions:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation

Once it’s installed and activated, go to Jetpack > Jetpack Beta, select the “Bleeding Edge” option, and then save your changes. At the top of the screen you should now see a prompt to update; just click that to install the latest build. (If you don’t see prompt the first time, you may need to switch to “Tagged Beta Releases”, save, and then switch back to “Bleeding Edge.”)

Thanks for the update Jeremy. Good news.

I am content to wait for the production release that includes the fix.

I will update this thread with my results once that occurs.

Jetpack 4.6 fixed this problem. Thank you very much.
