• Hiya all

So I just used the automatic update plugin to update my blog to the latest wordpress version.

The update seemed to go fine – backup was fine, database upgrade etc was all fine, plugins apparently all fine.

It asks me to click a link to complete the upgrade, which I do – and I have to log back in.

However, now I just keep getting told that my password is incorrect.

I have no idea what to do – I am certainly not an expert when it comes to blog stuff.. I am at a complete loss.

    Can anyone help please?

  • I’m having this same problem. I’ve tried resetting the password as well with no luck. I’m completely locked out.

UPDATE: I just purged my cookies and it let me back in now.

yeah, when I’ve heard of this happening – you were logged in when you started the automatic upgrade. Usually if you “log out” and (as the other poster mentioned – clear your cookies out and restart the browser) it’ll let you back in.

OK, I just tried this, and I still cannot log in – I just get (two of them actually) “incorrect password”.. when I know that it isn’t.

I tried deleting cookies on this machine, then tried logging in on another machine that has never been used for my blog stuff – so certainly no cookie issues there – no use.

    Can anyone else help?

Further info – it seems like the auto update didn’t fully complete? It said that everything was done, then I had to click a link, and it would take me back to my control panel, and then it would turn on my plugins again.. I don’t think they are on because I am getting a bunch of spam comments – so the spam filter plugin certainly isn’t on.

If anyone else can shed more light on this..

If the auto-upgrade thing didn’t work, then I’d just download WP from here and reinstall with clean files. You may have ot go into your database with phpMyAdmin to change your password, but I’d try redoing the filesystem via FTP and see if that fixes it.

EEEEK, that really scares me to be honest – the whole upgrade thing via FTP makes me worry..

It really isn’t as difficult as you imagine. Just follow the instructions, step by step, in the Readme file in the download.

Actually, if the number of posts can be relevant – we have way less complaints about manual upgrades than about all those “one-click” gizmos that screw up a lot of blogs.

yeah, what they said. The “automatic upgrade” actually scares me. I’d never do that. FTP is way easier, and you have a lot more control.

OK.. you are starting to convince me.

So – a friend has pointed me to this:

I tried the cache/cookies thing.. no luck. The next one is the renaming of the plugins folder.

I rename the folder to old, and make a new plugins folder.

when I try to goto my wp-admin page, I get the following message:

    Database Upgrade Required
Your WordPress database is out-of-date, and must be upgraded before you can continue.

The upgrade process may take a while, so please be patient.

I am now wondering what to do.. I don’t want to go ahead and upgrade the database, and then screw up my whole blog, and stop it from working.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Cheers!

    Matt

Actually, that is the WP upgrade: the changes in the database. If done correctly, it should not affect your content. But just in case, that’s why every upgrade instructions start with – BACK UP YOUR DATABASE!
