    Hi Guys

I’ve been unable to access my admin for a couple of days. This is the full error message: Error 403 – Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access the requested resource. Please contact the web site owner for further assistance.

    The site address is: https://bestsellingbeautyproducts.com/WelcomeHere1

I’ve contacted the host, who say I have to request support from the Developer of the WP Security Plug In….. Checking with my higher tier further we’ve rulled out mod security as a cause of the block. They reviewed further on the rules withyin the .htaccess and seem to think its a conflict between the blocks placed there by your security plugin and the rewrite in place to change the site’s login page. They’re not certain either on how to correct this.

They then added: I’m not seeing any errors on my end on the server itself regarding this page. That does indicate its a superficial 403 error such as one placed by a block. I would advise to check with the developer of the security plugin to see if this is a known issue on their end.

Then this: It does look like its causing the rewrites within the .htaccess. We’re just not able to review the full .htaccess file line by line to clear up any coding issues that have been caused. .

Could someone help with this please – I’m not a techie and have no idea how to upload FTP PHP etc….

The site has been running 3 years with the same login rename ie. not /wp-admin/

I’m using Chrome as the browser, however, Firefox and Internet Explorer apparently show the same messages. Host is InMotion on shared server. 5 other websites have a similar setup and none have this 403 Error issue.

    Thanks in advance ??

  • try giving all the permissions ??

403 forbidden means that your browser isn’t able to load the scripts up because your server isn’t allowing it. This is a hard one to solve. Because anything could be blocking the server.
    – Most likely this is a server permissions/ownership issue, so ask your host what’s going on
    – check your .htaccess files for anything strange.
    – make sure your server settings are not overriding the .htaccess file

Thank you Arvindsinghu & t-p for your replies ?? ; I’ve no idea how to do any of the permissions or, nor how to check my .htaccess files. The Host company said it’s an issue with the plugin and that there are no errors showing up on the server… I’d be terrified of altering stuff like .htaccess because I’ve no knowledge of it…..

Is one of the Tech Support guys one here likely to be able to help, coz like I said the host says it’s a plugin problem.

Ok , no problem try deactivating unwanted plugins.

Arvindsinghu – I don’t know how to do that because I can’t access the admin side, the WP login. Can I do it from the cPanel section?

The Host company said it’s an issue with the plugin

Not only unwanted plugins, but try deactivating ALL plugins.

If you cannot access dashboard, follow this codex for manually resetting the plugins folder by FTP/ SFTP (no Dashboard access required).

Oh Gosh t-p – that link looks terrifying…. I’ve bookmarked it so I can look at it with fresh eyes and brain tomorrow.

Many thanks for your response ??

@helenmcgarrigle yes you can do it from cpanel , very easily . ?? In the file manager section.

arvindsinghu – I’m in cPanel now – I’ve clicked on the file manager section – could you talk me through it please.

I’m not familiar with cPanel tbh

Ok now go to wp-contant folder

    And than go to

    >Upload >plugins>

Delete the folders of unwanted plugins ??

    Thread Starter helenmcgarrigle

    (@helenmcgarrigle)

uploads doesn’t have plugins in there…

If I go into the Plugins folder I can see a file called – all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall – that’s the one I’m told has the issue…..

    Thread Starter helenmcgarrigle

    (@helenmcgarrigle)

I clicked into that file and I don’t know what I’m looking at.

when I click on the admin folder it takes me to a page filled with php files and a folder called ‘general’

    (@helenmcgarrigle)

Oh – do you mean I should delete the folder named “all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall” ??

No no just wait for while ??
