• Hi I have WP installed in a sub directory of my domain and the site is working fine at the front end, however since making it live, I now get issues trying to change Appearance>Customise (which worked perfectly before putting it live). I also now can’t preview a page, or see the page in appearance.

I had a development site also in a sub directory and was hosting the files from it and had the same issues. So I recreated the site into the new directory and reverted the old one back to the dev.mysite.org.au. Now the previews all work fine in the dev site, so I could have saved 3 days recreating the site, but I now believe it stems from serving from a sub directory.

So it appears to be when the files are served from the sub directory that the issue happens.

In WP Settings > General I have my WordPress Address (URL) as https://mysite.org.au/QPGC and the Site Address (URL) as https://mysite.org.au. As stated site works fine but the backend is giving me grief.

  • Have you reset your permalinks? When you moved the site did you change the url throughout the database? https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress

I did reset the permalinks, and re did it again to make sure. I haven’t moved the files, WP is still in the sub folder where I installed it.
I didn’t change anything in the DB as the site is working fine. Bit of a newby to this. I just presumed I could keep the files in the sub folder and have the home URL. I suppose I could move the files to the root folder and change the htaccess file if it’s going to fix the backend problems, but hoped I wouldn’t have too.
