• I hope this is the right forum to ask this. I can’t find anything on this online anywhere…

I was looking at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_Versions and noticed that older versions of WordPress like 4.2.12 and 4.3.8 were released the same day that 4.7.2 was released (January 26, 2017).

Does this mean that these older versions like 4.2.12 and 4.3.8 are now as secure as 4.7.2?

The core team releases patches for versions of WordPress back to 3.7, where auto updates was first introduced. So yes, we try to keep as many WordPress sites secure as best we can.

That said, we only consider the latest release of WordPress as fully supported. So while we may backport security patches, that is not guaranteed. Always update to the very latest version of WordPress, at all times.

No. Not necessarily. Some relevant information: Supported Versions
