    Hi all.

We are using WordPress 4.7.1 for our website. We use 123reg as a domain server.

We want to make our website load faster and I’m not sure how to go about this.
I have read forums that are telling me to download W3 Cache and I have. Nothing has really happened.

We have a video on our front page but I cannot for the life of me find that particular component to try and edit (maybe make smaller or delete altogether). I know that if there is a lot of media then the pages could slow but we do not use that many other images…

We current have 10 inactive plugins (akismet, hello dolly, insite, jetpack, job board manager etc). Can I delete these? Will this make it faster?

I don’t want to use a plug in and ruin the website. I fear I may lose what I already have.

Can anybody suggest any ways we can speed it up?

You can use a webpage speed tool like tools.pingdom.com to find your bottlenecks and address them. Having said that, there’s a lot of things that need work on your site. You can either grab each notice/error you see on Pingdom and work on them one by one, or if you don’t want to dedicate the time and resources to do it, I would just consider signing up for https://www.zenwp.co and let them handle it.

Update asap to WordPress 4.7.2. as 4.7.1 has a severe security problem.

    Hi laurabarwick,

Checking your Site on Google page speed insight, https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.emskills.org.uk&tab=desktop, you see the reason for the Website Slow. it takes more than 11 minutes to load the homepage.
    Reduce the server Loading time.
The theme has Lot of Css file optimize it.
    Leverage browser cache….
You have to solve these listed issue on the page above. W3 Total cache is Good for Speed up your site, check the compatablity of the premium theme.Other wise use the supercache Plugin.
About the Inactive Plugins, You can Delete it. It may reduce some Db load.
