I can no longer find the “manage series” option that I believe used to appear under “posts” on the left sidebar in the WordPress admin panel. This leaves me unable to delete or edit a series. I can still add a series and add posts to a series through the right-sidebar widget when actually writing a post.

It has been a while since I tried going into manage series, and quite a few things have updated since then, so I am not sure if I am missing something or if this is a bug.

Everything I am using is up to date to the most recent version. I also use Genesis Framework if that is relevant.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • I’m unable to reproduce, so doesn’t initially sound like a bug in the current version of Organize Series. Whenever something like that disappears from the menu its usually due to a conflict with another plugin/theme that has registered a custom taxonomy with the same slug as Organize Series. To troubleshoot, you may want to begin with temporarily deactivating any plugins you added recently. Then you can move to trying switching themes. I doubt this would be caused by the Genesis Framework (I have that on sites with Organize Series with no problems) but its possible you are using a child theme of Genesis that might cause this as well.

Thank you for your reply. You are indeed correct. The culprit was the “Seriously Simple Podcasting” plugin, which I had only recently installed.

The conflict is likely related to the fact that that podcasting plugin also uses a “series” taxonomy for podcasts. Not sure if there is something you could eventually change on your end to help resolve the conflict. I don’t need to use that plugin right now, but it would come in handy for me in the future. Also, it is still a fairly popular plugin like yours, so others could run into this problem eventually as well.

Thanks for the help though regardless.

Ya the problem is that the choice of taxonomy slug when registering the custom taxonomy is more generic which increases the risk of conflict with other plugins that might choose that same slug. That’s not the only issue however, the choice for rewrite slug would also affect permalinks if two plugins share that same rewrite slug and yet that is usually the visual piece in url’s. Organize Series already has facility for modifying the rewrite slug (and query_var) via the Organize Series options page (look for Series Custom Base). You could try changing that to something else and see if it fixes the conflict (I’m not sure it will though).

Unfortunately, that did not fix it. I changed the “series custom base” in the settings from “series” to “post-series” and also later to “organize-post-series.” I also changed the “series table of contents URL” in a similar fashion with the “-toc” added at the end.

Nothing had an effect. The “manage series” option under posts still disappears when activating the “Seriously Simple Podcasting” plugin.

Also, I discovered another small unrelated problem I just wanted to get your quick thoughts on. I am going to start a new thread though to help others search for it if needed.

If you’re reporting a bug or feature request, it’s better if you post it as a github issue in the Organize Series repository (https://github.com/roughsmoothengine/organize-series/issues). It gets into my workflow faster there (I only come to these forums in spurts but monitor my github stuff more frequently).
