• Hi WordPress – did you tell us anywhere that you only need to upload 4 files to do an upgrade to 2.6.3? Did I miss it?

Please can future releases provide this information really clearly at the start?

Since I am having problems with upgrading WordPress to 2.6.3 (my site is now a beautiful blank white page, with no errors reported) I have been looking through the Forum. Having just spotted the comment from the moderator Samboll here listing the only 4 files that need uploading for the upgrade I’m a bit miffed I missed this info or it wasn’t made clear from the start.

  • before anyone can answer your question, we need to know what you are upgrading from.

And ‘miffed’ doesnt work here — the official wordpress blog, which announces EVERY release is where you find any information like “just upgrade 4 files” etc.. Its up to you to read those posts, and look for information.

and like I said, thats all going to be dependant on what you happen to have installed at the time. For instance, you cant start with wordpress 2.3.3 and JUST upload the 2 files discussed here:

    https://www.ads-software.com/development/2008/10/wordpress-263/

    to get to 2.6.3

That blog post, and those instructions assume users are already on 2.6.2

PS: having read samboll’s post I dont know where he gets 4 from, Ive not looked at the timestamps inside the zips so I cant confirm or deny that.

Samboll – thanks for a helpful response.

Whooami – thanks for the info on the blog, I’ll go and find it.

Oh, except the WordPress blog still only refers to two files, and hasn’t been updated with the correct info anyway, so I think I’ll just wait for others to have problems and samboll to spot them before upgrading next time ??
