If I put a text widget with the social media WITHOUT the

tag, the buttons show up. If I put the UL-tag, the buttons dont show up, so I guess the CSS hides everything between the UL.

Yes, like the readme says, the plugin doesn’t do anything to style the widget, it just places the widget inside a list item in the menu.
