Post via email

  • Many people have posted with problems with post by email. I continually get a connection timeout error, and haven’t found any solutions to my problem.

    I have WordPress 2.6 installed on Godaddy linux server.

    I have experimented with both a godaddy hosted email address and gmail address to post to.

    I have experimented with the built in post by email support, with postie and postmaster.

    With godaddy settings were pop.secureserver.net, port 110 (localhost was also tried). With gmail settings were pop.googlemail.com, port 995. Username was full email address inclduing @, correct password was used.

    Settings were verified using desktop email client.

    After posting a test email, I run wp-mail.php.

    The closest I can get to success is:
    POP3 connect: Error [110] [Connection timed out]

    I have seen some reference to certain ports being blocked with Godaddy hosted account, and to issues with user/password encryption when email and site are on the same server. This is my first foray into building a site and I dont know enough to understand if these isses relate to my case.

    I would be really grateful for any thoughts or ideas, positive or negative, or any pointers in the right direction.

  • I’m having the exact same problem. I’m on a windows database hosted by 1&1.

    I’ll be interested to know any resolution.

    HI! I experience exactly the same problem 9 months later this post has been published! The bug obviously hasn′t been fixed, or maybe it never is going to work? Rgs Andy

    What I forgot to add was….that the e-mail feature works fine. Even though I keep receiving the annoying message from the test-config:Checking for mail manually

    Connecting to imap.gmail.com:143 (imap)
    Mail Connection Time Out

    Common Reasons:

    Server Down

    Network Issue

    Port/Protocol MisMatch

    The Server said:Connection failed to gmail-imap.l.google.com,143: Connection timed out

    And since it works, I have come to the agreement with myself, that I wont bother any longer. I′ve just started with WP-blogs.
    I have placed a post about the issue, but since I also discovered it is an issue of concern for more than 10-12 months, I can′t see any reason to continue the concern, because I don′t think that it ever will be fixed!
