    Hi,

Am trying to setup Roles and their access to be network wide.

This way I can basically set the defaults for the whole network and then tweak extras on the sub sites settings.

But when in URE at Network level, it doesn’t show all capabilities and menu and meta box items available site wide. For example, the main site doesn’t use Woocommerce but a subsite does. When editing a role at network level I don’t have any of the Woocommerce options.

Is this right? If so, why not? If I am editing URE at network level I expect to see all network options.

    Hi,

I suppose that you use Pro version. As a free one is not shows ‘Users->User Role Editor’ menu at ‘Network Admin’ at all. It’s better to send Pro version related questions to these forums.

WordPress does not support network wide user permissions. All roles and capabilities are organized on a per site basis. So when you click ‘Users->User Role Editor’ under the ‘Network Admin’ you get the roles and capabilities from the main site of a network and can replicate them via ‘Update network’ button to all the rest subsite of your multisite network.

If your main site is so different from subsites, there will be no option to use the network update feature in this case.
More advanced variant – replicate roles from the selected subsite to other subsites (possibly the selected subset also) is possible, but not realized currently. But it’s a very good idea to realize in a future.

OK, I think that makes sense.

So basically the capabilities/menu/widget items etc., are collected from the site I am currently on. And if there are other capabilities available on subsites only, they don’t get picked up.

So for now, best thing to do is to edit Roles on a per site basis and not worry about the apply to network options.

    Right,

    1) When you open URE via subsite ‘Users->User Role Editor’ you see just current subsite data: roles, capabilities, widgets, etc…

    2) When you open URE at ‘Network Admin -> Users -> User Role Editor’ you always see data from the main site only.

Yes, per site roles editing is the only suitable decision currently in your case.
