• Hi, I stop using CF couple of month back because I changed my hosting plan,
so I switched back to original DNS for some time.
I deactivated CF through my account, then I also deleted my website from CF,
    deactivated the plugin also.

Now I want to start using CF again, I added my website to my CF account again, changed the DNS to CF DNS, my question is do I need to activate the plugin or not?!

  • Hi @greg007,

You don’t need the plugin. Everything you can do in the plugin you can do through the Cloudflare.com dashboard. The plugin can automatically configure a lot of functionality for you though.

    Thanks,
    John

Thank you very much for you quick answer!

So do you recommend activating the plugin after all?
If I activate the plugin, will it mess up something, considering that I activated the CF though my CF account already?

If I want to activate the plugin, and configure CF more easily (automatically as you sad) should I deactivate CF in my account and vice versa?

I just made thing complicated I know… ?? But I was confused there, when I got a notification that all is done and to check things back in 24h, and then I got to my plugins and saw CF plugin deactivated for some time now… ??

Yes, I recommend you activate the plugin. It won’t change anything without you doing something and you can always revert the settings in the Cloudflare.com dashboard if something messes up!

    Thanks,
    John

OK, I activated the plugin and got problems.
I have a SSL protocol with my hosting and CloudFlare is not working well with it.

    I got a:
“This site can’t provide a secure connection
    ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR”
    after activating the plugin

When I open my domain with https:// (without s), it opens up, but without photos on it.

I have disabled CF 10min back, but still the same.
I will revert back to original DNS and hopefully resolve this.

If you can help how to run CF with already having SSL, please post than instructions.

OK, I disabled the plugin via FTP (added old to name of CF plugin), and my website is finally back, without restoring DNS to my hosts.

Can you post some instructions how to use CF with SSL already running.

    @thellimist, thank you very much.

I looked at the link you posted, so it turns out that if somebody already has SSL protocol installed, has to use paid version of Cloudflare, to be able to run CF at his website.
    If I got it right…
