Disable Jetpack Stats ? No more option ?

The Stats feature should indeed now be automatically activated for you when you first install Jetpack. If that’s not the case, try the following:

1. Go to the Jetpack menu in your dashboard.
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
3. Click on “Debug”
4. At the bottom of the Debug page that loads, click to access the full module list.
5. Activate the Stats module there.

My mistake! You can deactivate Stats on that page as well, as it seems you’ve figured out. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Why isn’t there a link to that page? There is no way to disable many features without it.

@swinggraphics We moved away from the full module list in Jetpack 4.8, in order to make things less overwhelming and easier to understand for new Jetpack users. You can read more about the redesign and our goals here.

Our work isn’t over though; we keep iterating, and we’re continuously making more changes based on all the feedback we receive from site owners like you! We realize that page is still useful, and should be easier to access (the only way to get to the page right now is to know the URL or click a link at the bottom of the “Debug” page in your Jetpack dashboard). We’re discussing some possible improvements in this GitHub issue. Feel free to chime in with your ideas!

Yes Jetpack team, your default setting are too heavy on the server and if you want to hide this menu, you should really enable the minimum in jetpack, it means no more than 5 functions.

Welcome ! I an happy that I haven’t been banned definitively from WordPress for revealing it ! As it seems that they want to keep it secret…

But anyway, after trying it with the minimum functions, I have totally disabled Jetpack that slows websites WHATEVER SUPPOSED EXPERTS of all the blogs that you can find online will tell you.

@makeonlineshop I have no intention, nor the means to ban you from WordPress. ?? As I mentioned earlier, we’re aware that this page is still useful and should be easier to access. Don’t hesitate to chime in with your suggestions on the GitHub issue I posted earlier! Although if you’ve now deactivated Jetpack, I can understand that you would not be interested in sharing your ideas there.

Either way, if you’re ever willing to give Jetpack another try, we’re always happy to hear feedback and ideas. I would also be happy to hear more about the loading speed issues you experienced; we could run some tests together to try to understand what part of Jetpack slows your website down, and how we could fix it.

I initially got to this thread when I found a little smiley face gif on my site coming from pixel.wp.com and decided to track it down.

I’ve been using Jetpack for a while now, just because my theme requires it for some initial functionality. I don’t think I would pick Jetpack by choice otherwise. Why?

I just want to make this clear, many people say that Jetpack is slowing down the site. I’ve been trying to find out more about this and all the big guns in the industry say that it’s not true. They’ve got a point. Jetpack does not affect the site speed, frontend.

Jetpack does not slow down the site, however Jetpack massively slows down the admin. I’ve done a lot of testing with this, but I have to say that every time I switch off the plugin, my admin is many times faster. Jetpack slows down admin massively, that’s a fact!

So I understand what you’re trying to do here, but is it really necessary that Jetpack has so many modules activated by default? And in order to deactivate them, I need to go and search for it?? Like deactivating the stats hidden under the debug option?

Anyway, I can’t really say I hate or love the plugin. It has many useful as well as useless features. But is there any way that you could work on this and maybe activate the absolute minimum by default and let the user decide on activating the additional features? It really does slow down the admin massively.

Thanks for your feedback. There is definitely more stuff happening under the hood while in the admin context. We made a big push for performance a few releases ago and I’ll add to our list to do another specifically on the backend.

Do we always have to develop for people who can’t figure out basic settings? Enabling site stats by default – please don’t. Plus it slows down your site. Use analyitcs instead. That’s my feedback.

Yep, this killed my site. Make it easier for people to deactivate this module.

Personally, I think having these options hidden is really poor. Regardless of site speed or anything, it’s further complicating a complex CMS: it reduces usability.

Edit … My context is I develop sites and hand them over to my clients. Agreed Jetpack is complex, it just is. That’s OK. But the default settings add a whole load of stuff to the admin site that further complicate it for my user once I hand over. So … your aim is to improve usability for the Jetpack user, me I suppose, I don’t feel it has done that, I understand Jetpack, I had to find where to manage the settings, it got hard to use. My aim is to improve usability for my client, Jetpack adds a lot of elements to further complicate logging in and adding a blog post which I want to turn off. Having said all this, you have a tough job!
