  • In the Generate Backup screen there is a field called “Backup Only Files Modified/Created After”, you can set there a date to backup only files modified after that period and so creating a differential backup.

    Hope it helps

    Hi Liuta

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I want to schedule a daily backup using the differential method to capture changes. Do I need to take an intial backup first? Then create a scheduled backup to get the changed files and will the schedule step forward automatically each day?

    What i recommend is this:

    1. create a schedule with a full backup weekly or twice a month, and yes, I would recommend creating first a full backup, but this can be done manually from the Generate Backup panel

    2. create a daily differential backup including a database backup. The schedule differential time will not change automatically, i am testing a few solutions to see how it’s best to get this done, but so far, even if you let the differential time unchanged, you will still get a considerable lower backup archive size. You can manually change the differential start time from month to month if you like.

Please check the FAQ posted on the plugin page https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/ , i did post there a few other notes

That sounds good, will set it up as you suggest.

“i am testing a few solutions to see how it’s best to get this done,” will be fantastic when you have that sorted. Even as is this is much better solution for me than running massive daily full backups. Thanks for your work on this, great plugin.

I am testing XCloner as a solution and would be interested in this also.

I can imagine selecting another scheduled backup the source of the schedule differential time (or ‘this scheduled backup’, resulting in incremental backups). That way the differential can be from when the last scheduled backup ran.

For example, one full backup scheduled per week and one differential backup from when the last full backup ran (scheduled daily).

I will log as (enhancement) issue on Git Hub…
