• Hello,
I have built a site locally and want to migrate it to a web host. I tried following the WP Codex instructions for this and in my wp-admin > Settings > General I edited to url’s to the planned web domain and clicked “Save changes”.

It then showed a screen saying “Site undergoing maintenance.” I can hit the back button and get to the General Settings screen, but I can’t get to any other wp-admin screen. And I can’t see my local site, even when I change the url’s back and hit “Save changes” again.

So, I’m now locked out of (almost) everything! What should i do?

    Thank you!
    Doug

  • Hi Doug,

Can you send me a screenshot of what you are trying to explain?

    Maybe I can help

@meerkyzy–Thank you for the reply. I don’t see how to attach a screenshot on this forum! Any tips on that?

    Thank you,
    Doug

Access your local database via phpMyAdmin and edit the siteurl and home fields in the wp_options table to what they were before, including the https://

Once you do that, you should be able to log back in. Once there, I would suggest you move your local site to live by using the All In One WP Migration plugin available on the WP Plugin repository:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/

Watch the video on this page to see how easy it is to use ??

    Cheers!

    Lyle,
Thank you, though I have already managed to change the url’s by editing the wp-config.php file. (I checked the table you mentioned and they’re back to what they were originally.)

Now, when I go to my wp-admin page, I get this message in Firefox:
“The page isn’t redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.”

    In Opera I get:
“This page isn’t working localhost redirected you too many times.”

Anyone have a tip for what to do now? Thank you!

I got this fixed. Looks like, while trying various fixes, I had changed the local directory in my MAMP settings to be one directory too deep.

    Problem solved.
