Custom Thumbnails in NextGen Gallery

Just to make it clear – I have several long portrait images, but my thumbnails are set landscape or square. Therefore the thumbnail takes only a square section from the middle of the portrait image.

I am happy with the size and dimensions but would like to shift the crop area up so that, for example, I can show someone’s head from the top of the photo rather than their midriff. I am happy to creat my own thumbnails manually but was not sure how then to get NextGen Gallery to recognise them.

If this is not possible – just say so. A ‘no’ is better than no answer at all.

Has anything been done yet to fix this? It’s pretty annoying that the thumbnails often look silly with – as you say – just someone’s midriff instead of their head.

I am interested in learning if this is possible as well
