  • Define Menu. Your theme’s menu?

    Hi Borisv

No, its not the theme’s menu because in the conflict test, I had to disable all plugins except UM and change the theme to twentyfifteen theme, which is a different theme to the one we normally use, and after doing all that we still experience the same problem.

    Thanks for asking

Well instead of telling us what the menu problem is not, tell us what the menu problem is. I think you think anyone who reads your post knows what you are talking about. An “item” could be anything…

Yes, you are right of course, thanks for pointing that out.

I will explain it more throughly.

What I did was the follwing:

1 Log into WPA Back office
2 Hold mouse over “Appearance” on left hand menu
3 Cick “menu” on sub menu that slides out
4 On menu page, choose the menu I wish to edit
    5. On the menu I wish to edit, delete menu item, i.e. one of the entries on the menu that you normally click and it opens a page that it is linked to
    6. Add a new item onto the menu, i.e. on the pages table on the left othe menu that I chose, click the check box of the page I want added to the menu, and then click “Add to Menu” button
    7. Click “Save Menu” button
    8. Refresh the website to see if the menu changes show up, and they don’t.
    9. Clear Cache and cookies and restart browser, no changes.
    10. Try in different browser, no changes.
    11. Did the plugin / theme conflict test as mentioned in my previous message, no changes

Let me know if you think that is sufficient to explain it or not, and if not, please let me know what is unclear so that I can further explain.

    Thanks again

It’s crystal clear; your problem has nothing to be with UM.

Are you using any caching plugins? If so, try disabling them.

    Best,
    Rob

@borisv – thanks – it may be crystial clear to you but it’s not crystal clear to me. Please could you give a fuller explanation.

@verysiberian – Hi Rob, good to hear from you again, you are always so helpful and encouraging. I did not have any cache plugin installed at all, afterwards I installed one to see if maybe it would help, but no difference. But just in case I will re-do the entire conflict test and see if there is any difference – who knows – I may be able to isolate it the second time around.

    Thanks again

No, its not the theme’s menu because in the conflict test, I had to disable all plugins except UM…

Assuming your menu works without UM, they are having a pile of problems it seems with the latest UM versions (1.3.84 +) and WP.

I was thinking maybe you’re having a theme update issue or something unrelated to UM, but if you haven’t then I don’t know at this point. It could well be yet another conflict or problem.

Be aware that this type of problems are usually load related, where a .js file is not loading the JQuery library asynchronously.

The fastest solution is to either roll back to an earlier version of WP, UM or both.

@borisv – thanks I appreciate your response. I will try the conflict test again that UM recommended.

And thanks to you, I will also try disabling UM and trying the menu without UM. Never thought of that since its not in their test list.

I don’t have enough knowledge to do anything about .js file is not loading the JQuery library asynchronously related issues, not being a programmer.

If I still can’t resolve it will try the roll back method.

    Thank you, Boris.

I found a work around so I am going to mark this one resolved.

I redid the conflict test, no difference. Actually the menu totally disappeared in the twenty fifteen theme with UM plugin installed.

I had two menus, a main horizontal menu for logged out members and a secondary horizontal menu for loggin in members. I noticed that It was the second menu that was not recording the changes as described above.

I deleted all the menu links on the second menu, and then deleted the second menu entirely.

I added the links I had had on the second menu onto the main horizontal menu instead, and used UM permissions to control viewing permissions.

    It now works perfectly.

Maybe this will help someone with the same issues.

Thanks Rob and Boris for all your helpful comments. You guys rock!
