Hi, I am new to WordPress and have encountered a problem with image handling. I have wordpress installed on the domain c-panel.

For the Site Icon, I have uploaded a 512x512pixel square image as suggested by the site, but whenever I click SELECT on the uploaded image, it simply ‘de-selects’ and nothing happens. No matter how many times I click my image and re-click SELECT, the same thing happens. Closing the media library revealed that the site-icon has not been selected at all.

I guess I am having a similar problem to the original poster in this thread, because I also get the same ‘crop image error’. I am able to get around the ‘crop-image’ error part by manually cropping them before upload, but the ‘SELECT-de-select’ error could not be gotten around with.

I have no background in programming, so I don’t really understand the solutions given in the above thread. I suppose it has something to do with certain missing ‘php-library’ plugins as mentioned in that thread, but I have no idea where to begin solving this issue.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. this error occurred right at the beginning, so it probably has nothing to do with any new plug-ins I installed afterwards.

Do you have gd and/or imagemagick installed on your host, as well as the necessary PHP libraries to use them?

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have installed the ImageMagick Engine plugin. I’m afraid I have idea about the PHP libraries however, since I don’t know where to find their location on my site.

May I seek help in locating these files on my host, or perhaps, a way to download these libraries into my host?

I see there are commands in certain solutions such as ‘yum install…’, but to be honest I don’t know what that means as I’m not even sure where I’m supposed to type these codes.

Sorry for my rookiness in this whole thing.

How are you hosting this site? Have you contacted their tech support?

Hi Steve, thank you for your suggestion. My site was hosted on c-panel, and I have contacted for their tech support.

It turns out that the problem indeed lies with the PHP settings. I am able to solve the issue by clicking into the ‘Select PHP Version’ section, which by default was at an older version and had extensions with imagemagick and gd disabled. After changing the PHP version to the latest one, and manually enabling the imagemagick and gd extensions, my problem appears to be solved.

    Thank you again.
