(Note: I’m not entirely sure about that WP version selection — I’m going off of this part of one of my recent backup files: “wp_20170414_343.sql”)

I got an e-mail from GoDaddy today with this message (and I should note, I didn’t request the “update”):

“Congratulations! You are now able to publish to your updated hosting account.

Please note that it can take up to 24 hours from the time the update was completed for any newly-published content to be visible on your website.

DNS NOTE: Your account has been assigned the new IP address 97.74.181.1. If any of its hosted domains, including the primary domain e-domainhosting.com are in your hosting shopper account, their A records have been updated. If not, you must manually update their A records to point to the new IP address.

If hosted subdomains have been set up through the Hosting Control Center, their A records have been updated. If hosted subdomains have been set up outside your hosting shopper account, you must manually update their A records to point to the new IP address.”

So now, when I go to try to get to my WP blog site, https://www.reselect.com, I get this:

“Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required ‘/var/chroot/home/content/protect.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in Unknown on line 0”

I called GoDaddy support, but after basically just confirming that everything appears to be set up correctly for the hosting (A record has been updated to the new IP), they kind of told me I’m on my own fixing the WordPress database, unless I want to spend bucks to have them do it. ??

So after poking around the database and trying to disable all plugins, for example, nothing has changed. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where I should be looking, and what I can do to fix this error?

    Many thanks!

    Dave

Haha…I just realized that the “0414” part of that backup was the date, of course! is the “343” the WP version?

This sounds like a GoDaddy problem. Please contact GoDaddy tech support.

As I mentioned above, I did contact them, and through two levels of support they ended up telling me that they were pretty sure that this was something that needed changing in my WordPress setup, but since I can’t access my dashboard, the only way in is through the database. However, I’m very hesitant to do a whole lot of changes with that unless I have some idea of what I might be looking for, so I was hoping someone here could give me some direction based on the error I’m now getting at the site address.

    >> Failed opening required ‘/var/chroot/home/content/protect.php <<

This is not a WordPress file.

I’ve experienced this same problem immediately following the surprise GoDaddy update. It has knocked out several PHP installations within my hosting account in addition to my main installation of WordPress. (Other PHP installations experiencing the same error are OSticket and PhotoCart). I can access through FTP and my A records are correct (given my new IP address). Any HTML pages display normally. Test PHP echo pages give the same error as the OP wrote.

Contact GoDaddy tech support as that’s not a WP file — it may be something GD put there or you may be hacked.

Godaddy support had the same problem accessing my sites. The support tech noted a problem with a php.ini file and was able to solve it quickly. I called early in the morning and had no wait time and an even more surprising quick fix.

Well, I just stumbled onto this post as i am now having the exact same issue. My whole site was littered with “warning,…. failed to open stream,….
I was able to get my site pages cleaned up except for my blog page. Don’t even know where to start. Can anyone get me going in the right direction. Wish I could attach a screenshot here.
    Thanks
