• I have a bit of a problem. On just ONE (out of many) blogs that I maintain, I have issues with the commenting system under the official 2.7 release. Basically, all visitor comments get queued as “SPAM” and I must manually approve them, which is kind of a hassle, as this blog is very popular, and I get 50-100 comments a day. I’ve discovered that the commenting system will work just fine if I use the 2.7 Beta 1 release, but nothing else after that will work. This is a problem, as while I want desperately to upgrade to the official 2.7, I don’t want to lose my commenting system, and have to manually approve every single one.

So my question is, is there any way to “upgrade” to the official 2.7 without ACTUALLY upgrading? I.e. are their specific files that were patched or fixed or added to the finish version that I could simply used to replace the ones in the 2.7 Beta 1 version? So this way, I would be safe from security vulnerabilities by changing/replacing/deleting/adding the newer files, but not necessarily, actually upgrading all my files to 2.7.

I know, kind of crazy, but this is what’s happening with this one specific blog. Any one have any thoughts on how to solve this?

P.S. Let me add that I believe the problem is with my server, I can’t automatically upgrade, either, but right now I really can’t do anything about the server.

    Thanks.

  • AFAIK, there is no other way to upgrade to 2.7 except using all of the files in the final release package. There have been too many changes since the Beta1 release.

Did you report your issues with the commenting system and the automatic upgrade to the devs by submitting a ticket in Trac so they could help you get them resolved?

If you have set your Discussion options to moderate all comments, this will happen. I get that many comments a day and do not moderate, and they get through with WordPress 2.7 and not marked as Spam. Be sure and upgrade your comment spam Plugin, like Akismet, to ensure it is working properly.

Quick Online Tips recently featured WordPress Plugins for those who wish to stay with WordPress 2.6 which will give you much of the functionality of WordPress 2.7. Be sure and upgrade to the latest version, WordPress 2.6.5, to maintain a secure version.

Hi, guys. nope, i haven’t done any of the above (moderate all comments). i never changed my settings in-between upgrades, so i can only assume that whatever is in the latest release of wordpress, it does something involving the server that the server is not allowing it to, thus the strange forced moderation effect.

does anyone have any ideas how the 2.7 commenting system affects a server, or what it needs the server to do, that my server may not be allowing it to?

i know this is kind of weird, and afaik i’m the only one with the problem. it’s really aggravating, as i don’t like not upgrading for security’s sake.
