Hi there, i’ve been getting 0 byte zip files for uploads, themes, plugins and others. For DB it isn’t 0 bytes but i’m not sure whether that’s fine. Could someone help check the log file below to see where is the problem?

Please do not post the log in these forums. That’s too many lines. If you need to share then please use pastebin.com and share that link.

    Hi @bluelaser,

Please could you upload the contents of the log to pastebin, and post the link here.
We will then be able to diagnose the cause of the issue.

    Hi,

I’m afraid that the backup log does not show any explicit errors occurring.

However, it appears that you are using the FTP remote storage method to upload to the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of the same site?
If this is the case, I would recommend disabling the FTP remote storage, as this directory is where backups are stored before being uploaded and if no remote storage is set. Uploading to the directory can cause problems.

Please could you disable the FTP upload and take a fresh backup? Does the issue persist in this case?

ok i created the backup directory one level up and ran the backup.
    It’s telling me this:
    Next scheduled backups:
    Now: Tue, June 27, 2017 01:54
    Nothing currently scheduled
Last backup job run: No backup has been completed

    Hi,

From the latest log, it appears that UpdraftPlus is encountering issues processing the plugins backup file in the time available each resumption.

Please could you reduce the ‘Split archives every’ option (in the ‘expert settings’ section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab) to 40MB?
This will split the backup into smaller, more manageable files.

That will definitely have been the problem. By choosing to upload backups to UD’s private/internal directory, all kinds of bad things can happen. Don’t touch UD’s internal directory!

    Hi DNutBourne,
I’ve set it to 40mb and turned off remote storage and it still doesn’t backup. And it’s still encountering issues processing the plugins backup file.

    Hi,

Please could you try the following:

    • Reduce the backup split size to 25MB
    • Ask you hosts/server admin to check the PHP maximum execution time, and increase this to 300 seconds if it is below this

    Hi DNutbourne,
Thanks it works! The PHP maximum execution time was changed from 60 to 300. I have increased the backup split size to 40mb. And i tried to increase it to 100mb and 400mb but the success of backups is not consistent. Would you know what can fix that?

    Hi,

This is a resource issue. Backups are very resource intensive processes, and UpdraftPlus is not able to process the larger backup files with the resources available.

I would recommend keeping the split size at 40MB. There is no downside to a larger number of backup files, except for manual organisation.

Thanks for the explanation and help! Love using UpdraftPlus.
