    How to ensure our maintenance person cannot control our password for our domain?

    We hired this maintenance person to maintain our website and webhosting; and to install WP on behalf of our business. He refused to install WP from our webhosting.

    How do we ensure that he is not controlling our website, webhosting server and emails through his WP account, including passwords for our website?

    You need to talk to the hosting providers about this, as the hosting access is much more responsibility than WordPress.

    Since he is also maintaining our webhosting server, how do we ensure that does not control our webhosting server too?

    Actually he is doing you a favor by not using the install from the webhosting company. The way to make sure that he does not control you server and domain is to grant him a separate user access that is not connected to the billing and main user sign on, but some web hosts do not offer this feature tho cpanel has made some strides in this area. If they offer this and how to use it, is what to ask of both your domain and hosting providers.

    The other thing to ask is if you do not trust him, why did you hire him?

    Is this person responsible for your domain name registration as well as your website? If so, I would fix that ASAP. I entrust my domain names to no one – keep them separate from web hosting/maintenance. Register them through one of the many registrars like GoDaddy or NameSilo, use a strong password. Also, make sure you have unfettered access to your website backups. As long as you control your domain name and site backups, worst case you can always move on to a new hosting provider and/or site maintainer.
