Student Managment advice

  • Hello,

    I’m attempting to host my own website with WordPress installed. I have some questions about how to achieve my aims, just hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

    The aim is to organize video lessons with students and numerous teachers.

    I need some way to do the following:

    -monitor student and teacher’s attendance, i.e did the video lesson take place!
    -keep a record of the content of each lesson with students( students will be changing teachers often)
    -allow teachers to look up previous lesson content.
    -allow students to rate teachers per lesson which accumulates into an average score.

    I’m not sure how to achieve all this. Perhaps there is a ready made plugin I can install, perhaps I need to brush up on my coding and create something myself.

    What I would really like to hear from the community is how YOU would go about doing all this? Any ideas, comments or suggesting would be much appreciated.

    I hate to say this **gasp** but WordPress is not necessarily the right solution for “everything”.
    If I “had” to use WordPress, I’d look into yes a plugin but perhaps better yet Role management plugin. So that Teachers and Students had more strict rules on what content to access.
    The other features seem like they would need customization.
    An open source software for learning is Moodle> https://moodle.org/

    There are two plugins that may work together for you. Both are paid options on Envato but worth looking into.

    WPLMS – WordPress Learning Management Systems. I have used this on one of my client websites and it allows you to set up courses, students and teachers. Teachers can even add their own curriculum and content. Students can track their progress. The teachers can also see who has completed the assignments.

    The other plugin is “School Management System for WordPress” and it acts as a student information system. It allows attendance, teacher, student and parent pages to track progress.

    There are many LMS solutions out there. LearnDash is another good WP plugin.

    But as Sol pointed out, sometimes WordPress isn’t the solution. There are also non-WP learning management systems: Moodle, Eduongo etc.
