Hello, guys, I need some support on how to install wordpress locally and make it fast on my windows 10 laptop.

Now let me make few thing clear.

I have already installed wordpress locally using XAMPP. It offers good settings and configuration options. But the response time of the local website is terrible. I mean the post editor page opens in 5 to 8 seconds. The installed plugins page opens in 3 to 5 seconds. The admin page itself takes almost 5 to 6 seconds to load.

Note: I followed this guide https://wpvkp.com/how-to-install-wordpress-on-xampp/ and also asked the author to help and he said that I should change the localhost in wp-config.php to 127.0.0.1. Amazingly it did worked and the local host response time improved by 0.5 to 1 second. But still laggy as compared to my original website/blog.

So is there any workaround to make locally installed wordpress website fast and administration panel more responsive.

Or is there any better alternative to XAMPP and WAMP, which can help me install wordpress locally and offer me improved flexibility.

In case you need my lappy’s configuration, it’s listed below.

    OS: Windows 10.
    RAM: 8GB DDR 1333MHz.
    Processor: Core i5 6th generation.
    SSD 128GB, HDD 1TB.

I think my system can handle any sort of application for web development. Please kindly help me. Thanks.

  • Hi,

You may want to try using MAMP for Windows. ( Free version )
    https://www.mamp.info/en/downloads/
    https://documentation-3.mamp.info/en/documentation/mamp-windows/

I am using MAMP for Mac, running PHP 7, which is fast.

    Thank you

    Hi,

@denzel_chia thanks for the reply. But XAMPP already has support for PHP7. have you tested it on your system, what is the response time of your locally hosted website.

    Hi,

Sorry, as mentioned in my previous reply. I am a Mac user does not have a PC to test XAMPP.

MAMP works fast on my Mac which is why I recommended it’s Windows version to you.

    Thank you

    @creativetron

I have been using the latest XAMPP with PHP 7.1.4 on my Win 10 system for a while now and find it very responsive and quick. 3.4GHz i7 with 16GB RAM. Local installs include Woocommerce, LifterLMS, various page builders.

    Cheers!

@snifflevalve, but on my system, it seems slow, today I even tried to clean up the database.

    @creativetron

Not sure what it could be. The system I described earlier is a 4.5 y/o “no-name” desktop and XAMPP hums right along. However, on my barely 2 y/o Surface Pro 3, 256 GB SSD, 8GB RAM, the same XAMPP version is pokey in comparison.

One thing you may want to consider is using the Admin Page Spider plugin. Makes switching between pages/posts/CPTs a lot quicker as you don’t have to go to the All Pages / All Posts to select one; they are in drop downs in the admin bar at the top of the page.

Today I tried another method, increasing the PHP execution time limit and the memory limit to 1GB or 1024MB.

    But no luck.

Those two items should not really affect performance.
I suppose one other thing to mention is that on my desktop system, I have very few tabs/processes running. Generally only XAMPP and a few browser tabs. I do however have three different browsers running, one each on my three monitors.

That is why I am somewhat surprised in the lack of performance on the SP3, even when XAMPP and one browser and tab are running. I just live with it and carry on ??

Thank you guys for help. I have finally found the best alternative to xampp, its Local by getflywheel. It’s awesome, easy to use and fast.

Thanks and I am closing this thread as I found my solution.

    I think its pretty simple,

first, you just need to download WordPress package
then you need to configure php my admin for database setups, and in your XAMPP server configure wp config.php and hurray you have successfully installed WordPress on your XAMPP. for more details you can visit to this article here
