Displaying categories as a dropdown vs list and affects on SEO

    my website is https://www.listenup.za.net

    i had my categories showing as a list before they got too big and I decided to change to a dropdown…i then started noticing my Search engine rankings dropping substantially…

    now I would like to know if this was purely coincedance – will displaying your categories as a list and not as a drop down be seen better by search engine spiders?

    or will they be seen the same?
