• Hi I am newbie to WordPress and Ubuntu and am trying to build my own in-house server on which I wish to host at least three different domains out of which One compulsorily has to be blog (naturally WordPress if my first preference). I would prefer at least one more domain to have its own wordpress blog, for third it is ok to have a few static pages or maybe its own wordpress blog … as of now the third domain is not that critical.

I have configured my Ubuntu 16.04 with LAMP stack and have tried all the possible tutorials which I can find but somehow am not able to mix multiple domains hosted along with even a single WordPress site.

Is there any tutorial or URL or clue anywhere on web which I am missing please?

or if any of you gurus can please guide me? I shall always be under your obligation for this please.

    Thanks

  • is that your real name? or you just invented one?

While not a WordPress question specifically, I believe your issue lies with Virtual Hosts in Apache. If you do not have them configured correctly, every domain you point at the server IP will return the same default site. Here is a tutorial that talks about vhosts in Ubuntu: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-apache-virtual-hosts-on-ubuntu-14-04-lts

Thanks for your response Sean. But I have already configured virtual hosts on my Ubuntu 16.04 using a newer version of the article suggested by you. All those sites work nicely without any issue but only till the time all of them are non-wordpress sites. The moment I configure anyone of them with wordpress on same physical server, the remaining start behaving weird like access to those non-wordpress start prompting for authentication or else they just land on the wordpress site even though the url relates to non wordpress ones.

Because, till the time I keep away from WordPress, all my virtual sites word properly but somehow, the way I am configuring WordPress based on my very limited knowledge, messes up the whole shared server so I thought that perhaps I need some guidance/help with wordpress and that is the reason I posted the question here……

@gmanupin you are welcome to see my details and my server at https://ankush.healthsevak.com https://healthsevak.com https://livewithparis.com and few other domains hosted on same server please.

The moment I install and configure wordpress for one site, and then access any of the other two site (non-wordpress) the browser starts prompting for user name / password …. to my tiny brain it looks like it is prompting me for MySql login but even those credentials also do not take me anywhere because the authentication prompt keeps coming back ??
