    Hi, I just installed updraftplus on my website and set the backups to manual.

    I started a backup (to google drive) and after about a minute got a message starting:
    Unexpected response: <!DOCTYPE html> then what looked like the html “head” content of the site.

    I had to OK the message then the backup continued and completed.

    My question is what caused the unexpected response message and is the backup OK or corrupted?

    I repeated the back up and the same thing happened.

    Hi,

    Please could you send us a copy or screenshot of the pop-up error?
    You can use a service such as snag.gy to upload the screenshot, and post the link here.

    Please could you also send us a copy of the latest backup log? This can be found in the Existing Backups tab.
    The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Hi, thanks for replying.

    I don’t have a screenshot of the popup error as it takes close to an hour to do another backup, it’s a large site.

    The message was: Unexpected response: <!DOCTYPE html> then content from the html “head” and that was all there was.

    Hope this is enough info for you, if not I will do another backup in a few days and grab a screenshot the but I remember it was not all visable and there was a long scroll.

    Hi,

    From the log, it appears that the backups are completing correctly. It appears that the issue is only with the response message from the server.

    Do you see a warning regarding extra whitespace in the Existing Backups tab?

    Could you try a database only backup, and send us a screenshot of the pop-up if it appears?

    There is no warning regarding extra whitespace in the Existing Backups tab.

    I have just done a database only backup as you requested and no pop-up message appeared.

    Hi,

    It is possible that an error is occurring on the server, but is being passed back to UpdraftPlus as a HTML page (some security modules do this).

    Could you (or your hosts) check the PHP error logs for any errors occurring around the same time as the backup?
