Create references to same book but different language

    I was wondering if there is a way to solve the following problem. Even Amazon is not very good with that.

    It’s all great that books are being translated into different languages. But there is no easy feature that allows for the following filter function: Here’s a book – now show me this book and all it’s translated versions. Essentially the content is all the same. It is the same book. Just a different language. It would be really cool, if you could click on a book and immeditaly see all the available language options. And then you pick the language of your choice. If there is a choice.
    Would make a great feature for sites with international visitors.

    Also solves the problem when you are digging through an author page on Amazon and the titles for the same book just have absolutely no indication wether or not it actually is the same book because the translator took some bizarre liberties. Basically you don’t know which books you haven’t read yet by that author. The only hard evidence is if Amazon list the original title. But that doesn’t solve the problem bi-directional. It only tells you from one given tanslated version what the orignal is.
    And if that information is also missing you’re stuck with looking inside the books for clues. Names of chapters and whatnot. Which of course only works, if Amazon has that content available online. So that basically rules out any older books.

    I guess one solution would be to declare one book the parent version in Mooberry and then have child versions for the translations.

    Probably same issue if someone really needs to keep track of what edition of the book somebody is looking at. E.g. if you really need to show this is the original print and this is the latest version with all the latest updates. Which might be really interesting when it comes to scientific books e.g.

    So in a way this is probably very similiar to how you have added the function to show if a book is available as download and/or physical book.

    Yup, I hear you on the issue. Re-working the whole editions set up and adding in languages as well is on my to-do list. I think Goodreads lists all the different editions including translations on a single page for a book. That’s the model I’m looking to go towards, in addition to being able to associate buy links with each edition/translation/etc.

    It’s a fairly large re-working and will also require migrating the existing data to the new system, so I don’t have an estimate date at this time, but it’s definitely something on my list!
