    a) it will cut down the number of clicks, and page loads
    b) it would showcase the capabilities of wordpress

    Some example contents of the first level menu contents might be;

    Popular
    Latest
    Favorites
    Feature Filter

    Plugins
    Featured Plugins
    Popular Plugins
    Beta Plugins
    Add Your Own Plugin
    Create a Plugin
    Stay Up-to-Date

    etc
    This moves all the options on the first page down, up a level to being options on the menu of the first page.
    All the first pages down can remain the same, so no page content redesign in needed.
    Just the menus are made more effective.
    This might have the additional benefit of reducing page loads, and reducing bandwidth load on the server, because of the more direct route to destination pages that can be taken.
    It also increases the rate at which visitors can get to grips with the layout of the site, deeper down.

    Also, being a mega menu, the brief descriptive text can be displayed with each menu option, if desired.
