Hi @damianvincent
Thanks for your feedback on our pricing. Give itself is free of course, and you can do donations in a very robust manner with our free plugin. It has all the basics of what you need. But when you need a specific gateway or custom fields then that requires more work and time and effort — and that’s what you pay for, that we can do that work so you don’t have to.
Of course, you can customize the free Give form however you like currently and we have very detailed docs and examples for you here: https://givewp.com/documentation/developers/how-to-create-custom-form-fields/
I don’t know how much you value your time generally, but if Form Field Manager saves you 3-4 hours of your time then I believe you’d see the value. Plus, when you purchase you don’t only get access to the Add-on, you also get access to me and my Support Team to help you with anything that might come up.
Give is also built in a way to allow you to build your own payment gateways. A friend of ours actually wrote a simple tutorial on that as well here:
https://whoischris.com/building-payment-gateway-give-wp-donation-plugin-wordpress/
But keeping up with the latest API changes and whatnot for your gateway can be taxing. Which again is why it’s smart and even prudent to pay others to do that for you. Which is what you get for one year with your Authorize.net purchase from us.
Keep in mind that we have over 35 Add-ons now and we keep them updated, we push out new features and fixes all the time. Just this year we released 7 new Add-ons including a free one (Form Countdown).
The bottom line is that we know that pricing is really important to you and all our users and customers, so we do our best. We have to balance charging what the add-ons are worth with making sure our lights stay on not just now but for the coming years so that we’re still in business when you need us years from now.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns at all.
Thanks!
