• FATAL ERROR Plugin in problem:

I am disappointed to go to a website of mine this morning, to find the site down to to a plugin error.

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare sfsi_social_media_metabox() (previously declared in /home4/hilaryd/public_html/chessratingrise.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/ultimate-social-media-icons/libs/sfsi_custom_social_sharing_data.php:3) in /home4/hilaryd/public_html/chessratingrise.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/ultimate-social-media-plus/libs/sfsi_custom_social_sharing_data.php on line 61

WordPress and plugins are a blooming pain! Why should a plugin error crash a WordPress site? Why cannot WordPress developers and plugin developers stop this behaviour?! Also, there should be a list of plugins that cause problems with clear instructions on how to fix the errors…..

Someone else a month ago commented on this plugin a month ago also:

I guess I will have to go to cpanel and try and disable this plugin and try to restore my site. What a pain!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Make sure you have a backup of your database and files.

A full restore shouldn’t be necessary. Just go into cPanel file manager. Then go to /public_html/wp-content/plugins/. Then move the entire ultimate-social-sharing-media-icons folder outside of the plugins folder.

This is a way of disabling the plugin if you can’t get to wp-admin.

You can delete the problem plugin via FTP in the wp-content->plugins folder.
But before make the copy of your error and screenshot of it and contact support of the Ultimate Social Media Icons plugin. They will probably help you or clarify what you will need to do next.

    Hi guys
I have just been to my cpanel and renamed the plugin ultimate-social-media-icons to “FE_rename_ultimate-social-media-icons” and now my site displays again. Now I had better try and find the author/s of this plugin and let them know of this event.

I do not understand how this happened as the last time I looked at the site it was fine. That was many weeks ago. Does WordPress and plugins automatically update now?
Whatever, the WP & plugin developers should not allow this error to occur in the first place. Many years ago I did some WP coding (WP theme author) and maybe I should get back to it and try and sort this crappy behaviour out! Apologies for the rant but this should be allowed for the otherwise fine WP CMS and some clever WP developer/coder should work on this….. Best wishes ??
