• Hello!

I’d like to install a subdomain multisite and in the prereqs doc at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Before_You_Create_A_Network I read the following:

WordPress must run from the root of your webfolder (i.e. public_html) for subdomains to work correctly. They will not work from within a subdirectory.

Is this true? I was hoping to keep my public_html folder clean but this means all of the top-level WP files will be in public_html, right?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Is this true?

That talks about your URL not your actual directory. Keeping your files in public_html is fine as long as the URL is like so. https://site1.domain.com/ and not https://site1.domain.com/directory/.

That /directory/ is an option for stand alone WordPress but not multisite. That doesn’t sub-directories won’t work but sub-domains is fine.

(NOTE: Some may say that you can make it work but that’s a little more advanced and can break many things.)
