    Hi,

I cannot get WPForms-Lite to work, though I have installed it three times now.

I have installed the plugin with the administrators account so should have all the necessary capabilities.

If I start a form and select a template such as ‘Blank Form’ or ‘Simple Contact Form’ an orange box on a black background appears saying ‘loading’ with a rotating cog wheel. This is all it does. Eventually I have to click the cross in the top right corner to exit the page.

The first time I installed WPForms-Lite I was able to use the ‘Blank Form’ template and install a single text box. But when I tried to install another text box or an address input it hung in the same way, with an endlessly rotating cog wheel.

I have tried going into settings and checking the ‘Load Assets Globally’ box but without success.

These are the permissions showing on the server.

    drwxrwxr-x. 6 apache apache 4096 Sep 20 15:51 wpforms-lite

    drwxrwxr-x. 6 apache apache 4096 Sep 20 15:51 .
    drwxr-xrwx. 9 ftp-UsEr-1958 psacln 4096 Sep 20 15:51 ..
    drwxrwxr-x. 6 apache apache 4096 Sep 20 15:51 assets
    -rw-r–rw-. 1 apache apache 15378 Sep 20 15:51 changelog.txt
    drwxrwxr-x. 7 apache apache 4096 Sep 20 15:51 includes
    drwxrwxr-x. 2 apache apache 4096 Sep 20 15:51 languages
    drwxrwxr-x. 3 apache apache 4096 Sep 20 15:51 lite
    -rw-r–rw-. 1 apache apache 22510 Sep 20 15:51 readme.txt
    -rw-r–rw-. 1 apache apache 9358 Sep 20 15:51 wpforms.php

Unfortunately the website is on a secure server so is not accessible via the Internet.

Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks

  • Hi hairloss57,

I’m sorry about the trouble, and I’d be happy to help!

I’ve seen this happen a couple of times before, and in those cases code from other plugins was loading on our builder pages and causing conflicts.

WPBeginner has a great guide on how to troubleshoot for code conflict issues: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/beginners-guide-to-troubleshooting-wordpress-errors-step-by-step/.

After backing up your site (a good precautionary measure before making a bunch of changes), you’ll need to go to your site’s Plugins page. Then, as the tutorial describes, you’ll want to deactivate all plugins (in this case, just leave WPForms active). The issue will most likely be fixed — if it is, you’ll then need to go through the plugins and activate them one-by-one with testing in between. I like to keep two windows open in my browser, one for the form testing and one for the Plugins page (just be sure to refresh the form page for each test).

When you see the issue start again, you’ll know you’ve identified the source of the conflict.

This can be a frustrating process, but luckily this approach is usually pretty quick and effective.

When you’ve had a chance to give this a shot, could you please let me know how it goes or if you have any questions?

    Thanks! ??

    Hi Jess,

    Thanks for your reply.

I did pretty much as you described earlier today and got WPForms working. I turned of all the plugins and then turned them on one by one, starting with WPForms, and it now works. I haven’t noticed any problems with the other plugins either.

Am I correct in thinking that the second lot of light blue buttons – were they called Fancy Inputs? – do not work in the free version? If I drag any of those inputs onto the form I just get the endlessly rotating cog-wheel. After spending some time trying to get them working I finally wondered if the light blue buttons were ‘grayed out’? I looked on your website but could not see a list of features for the free version and finally found a review that said they only work on the paid version. It was a bit irritating that no message came up to say that they only work on the paid version, it would have saved me some time.

I decided to finish my own contact form plugin but will look again at WPForms if I need something more complex.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I’m glad to hear the troubleshooting measures seemed to work, but I’m sorry for the confusion over the fields! You’re correct — Fancy Fields are only available with our paid licenses.

We’re working on an update that will prevent the spinning wheel and hopefully help to avoid any future confusion or frustration from this.

If there’s anything else I can help with, could you please let me know? Thanks! ??
