Among all “external URLs featured-image” plugins this is certainly the easiest to set and the best coded. I’m giving it only 4 stars because, just like all other similar plugins, it doesn’t assign the URLs to the metabox automatically and you must insert them manually. Something not practical for websites with thousands of posts.

Hey @arsenalemusica, this can auto assign first image in post as the featured image so you may want to increase your review from 4 to 5 stars. I’m not sure if it was implemented recently but this automatically assigns the first image on my posts as the featured image. If this is what you are referring to, I think a bump to 5 stars would be the right direction. I think all you need to do is run an update on all posts and it will work, seems to have been the case in my situation. Cheers!

I’d be glad to test again. You mean that in one of the latest update the Authors have added this feature? Or can you tell me how you did it?
You see, my images are not in the posts, they are custom-fields (i.e. URLs that need to go into the metabox)

I’m not sure to be honest. It sets a featured image from the first image in the post whether it’s an external image or internal image uploaded via the post editor. Sounds like you may have a non-standard setup, idk.
