[discussion] AV vendors and the future
-
i’m amazed by all of this – first TPB runs a mining script and the news is everywhere, then a few days later there’s a WP plugin!
i think this could be a great way for the little guy to gen some revenue, however i think it *must* be an opt-in thing
i see that the AV companies and ad-blockers (uBlock Origin for one) are already jumping on this and this could potentially make JS miners a thing of the past before it ever gets going
and i don’t think that running these scripts secretly is going to help promote these miners in any way whatsoever – in fact, i’m sure it will piss-off a lot pf people
i ask the dev to think of the future here and make the ‘opt-in’ approach the only way to run the script … and then try and work with the AV guys to get it whitelisted
otherwise i think it will be DOOM for these miners and i suspect the WP crew will blacklist these scripts as well
