I have been using Toolset and have created a post type “Machines”.

I need to update that post type and want to turn off ‘Categories’ taxonomies. I un-check the select box and click on “Save Post Type”.

    I then get the warning:
You cannot use this slug because it is already used or a reserved word. Please choose a different slug.

I just want to update the CTP, not change its slug. So what is the workaround here? Why wont it just update the current CPT? Do I make the change to the taxonomy and change the slug, then edit again and change the slug back to the original?

Most likely you have a page or post with that slug, somewhere.

A solution is to update either of both slugs to something unique to solve the issue.

That was it, I had a page in draft mode that I was using while I was working on the CTP. I deleted it and the settings updated as expected and all is right in WordPress land once again.
