I’ve run into an odd problem. Whenever the search terms includes “request” the search will trigger a 403 error. But if I’m logged into the website, the search works fine. I’m only seeing this behavior when the search includes the word “request” or some form of it like requesting, requested, etc.

I can’t figure out what’s causing this. Any ideas?

Sounds like you might have over eager security settings on your site: either a WordPress plugin or implemented in server settings. Whatever it is, it sees the string “request”, thinks it’s something fishy, and blocks it.

That was it! iThemes Security is the culprit. Deactivating it eliminated the 403 error. Now I know what to fix. Thanks for your help.

As a general rule, it’s better if the security can be implemented before WordPress starts up in the first place. But good luck finding a solution!
