All of the sitemaps where I use All In One SEO to create sitemap are being shown as HTML files and not xml. Getting this error in Google Webmaster:

Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.

    What is causing this?

Your sitemap is fine. Without looking into it further, I’d say you probably just need to resubmit it.
I take it you were using a different plugin previously, did you have the problem then?

I have been using all in one for well over a year now on all of my sites. It appears to be fine on other plugins for sitemaps. I am still getting the html error.

In addition to it still being an html file, there is also this line of the sitemap that I have never seen before:

    allstarsportsfan.com/sitemap_addl.xml Shat is “addl” ?

It’s definitely not HTML. If you have any caching plugins, disable caching of the sitemap and resubmit it.

I have resubmitted it and google says it is an html file. If you are seeing otherwise, please send me a screenshot.
Also, be sure to click on any of the items in the sitemap as they have issues also especially whatever the “addl” file being created is.

Here is what is strange. I have this site set on google webmaster with both the http: and https: versions. If I try the sitemap in http site, I immediately get the html file error. If I submit the sitemap in the https site, it appears to be accepted and is currently pending. Does this make any sense?

Yes, that is an HTML file regardless of what it says. It wouldn’t have the blue at the top if it were a true xml file.
In any case, did you get to read my next post above?

“It wouldn’t have the blue at the top if it were a true xml file” That’s incorrect. The styling comes from the xsl file.
This is absolutely an xml file.

All in One SEO Pack is working as intended. You can try excluding the xml files from your caching plugin and resubmitting, but if it still isn’t working, that’s a webmaster tools issue, not an AIOSEOP one. The fact that you have your site in webmaster tools twice and it works in one of them should also tell you it’s a valid xml file, as I’ve told you.

As you refuse to believe what I’m telling you (that this is a valid xml file, coming from someone who makes xml files for a living), I’m marking this as resolved.

I value your answer. Have you ever encountered an http: vs https: issue?

What I can’t understand is that AIOSEO is generating the sitemap and google is giving me this error:

    Errors
    Sitemap is HTML
Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.

If it is a true xml file then why would Google be saying that it isn’t?
